No One Held Accountable for Setting Forests Ablaze and the Deaths of Firefighters
Taghi Changalvaei, a farmer from Asadabad village in Behbahan and a volunteer firefighter, lost his life to severe burns while climbing the heights of the “Badiil” no-hunting zone to extinguish a wildfire before a rescue helicopter could reach him. He is the 26th volunteer firefighter since 2019 to fall victim to the devastating wildfires plaguing the Zagros forests.
According to a report by the Iranian Parliament’s Research Center, 90% of forest fires in Iran are caused by human error, spanning both negligent and intentional acts.
Experts point out that poachers, land grabbers, farmers, and industrial actors often intentionally set fire to forests due to conflicts of interest. Despite the surge in arson, the judiciary has shown zero urgency in identifying or convicting the perpetrators.
‘What System?’: Iranians Say Crime Is Soaring After The War
During the 40-day war and the missile and drone strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, many police stations, criminal investigation bureaus (Agahi), Basij bases, and checkpoints were targeted. Many of these locations played active roles in suppressing street protests; however, they also handled routine civic cases such as home burglaries, mobile phone thefts, purse snatchings, street brawls, and harassment complaints.
Following the destruction of these law enforcement buildings, the Islamic Republic’s police force claimed that “the people’s business will not be left hanging” and that urban “service desks” and “police trailers” set up across cities would address and handle citizens’ legal needs. In interviews with IranWire, citizens shared their firsthand accounts of pursuing law enforcement cases during and after the war.

Iran Parliament Accuses State TV of Censorship After Ghalibaf Interview Cut Short
The abrupt interruption of a televised interview featuring Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament and head of the Islamic Republic’s negotiating team, has drawn an official response from the parliament’s media center. The center issued a statement declaring that key portions of the interview covering the war, the Strait of Hormuz, and the memorandum of understanding with the United States were withheld from broadcast by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) without prior coordination.
According to the parliament’s media center, the interview was recorded in coordination with the IRIB “in alignment with the Supreme Leader’s directive to pursue the provisions of the Islamabad Memorandum” and to provide an official report to the public. The footage was delivered to the broadcaster more than two hours before its scheduled airtime, yet the broadcast was suddenly cut short mid-program.
Criticizing the IRIB’s conduct, the media center noted that even if a decision had been made to censor parts of the interview, “the bare minimum expectation” was that the issue should have been coordinated with the parliament’s media team before airtime.
